Los Pirañas ‎– La Diversión Que Hacía Falta En Mi País Staubgold 145

New tropical psych bangers from the Bogota maestros of the genre! On Staubgold recs.

''Everything we love about music is instilled in Colombian band Los Pirañas. The tropical noise trio from Bogotá – whose members are the mainstays of bands like Frente Cumbiero, Meridian Brothers and Romperayo – play music with no fear, hitting the listener in the core of their being with their raw, untamed sound. It’s music that draws from Colombia’s rich heritage but takes it into territory it never imagined possible.

And in typical fashion the group have just released their second album. Titled La Diversión Que Hacía Falta En Mi País the album emerged with little fanfare on Saturday night, while we were all catching a few winks. It follows on from their debut, Toma Tu Jabón Kapax, which was originally released in 2011 and which got the 5 star treatment from us. Containing unique interpretations of tracks by Luis Alberto Spinetta, Conjunto Miramar and Mutantex Medellín, alongside their originals, as well as the production work of Will “Quantic” Holland on a couple of tracks, their second album continues exactly where Toma left off, with Pedro Ojeda’s drums, Mario Galeano’s bass and Eblis Alvarez’s guitar and effects taking Colombian music into completely new territory. This is what the future sounds like.'' Russ Slater in Sounds & Colours
